How do we explain the unexplainable to our children?
In this entry, I reflect on the heavy work of parenting through grief following the loss of my father. Watching my three and five-year-old children navigate the “Space Between Us,” I’ve had to sit with the reality of developmental readiness and the vital importance of respecting a child’s pace as they process loss.
This is a quiet study in restraint and honesty. It is about the art of standing in the gap between my own adult understanding and my children’s forming hearts.
The Thread of This Entry:
Respecting the Pace: Why we don’t rush a child’s understanding of grief.
Honesty over Performance: Finding the “kid-version” of the truth.
The Internal Environment: How our own regulation (or dysregulation) signals safety to them.
Stewardship of Loss: Moving through the “Space Between” as a family.
